Act I: Destiny is the first Act of Ninja Gaiden. It takes place in North America, and is comprised of two areas, Act 1-1: Galesburg, and Act 1-2: Jay's Bar.
Story[]
Prologue[]
A young ninja named Ryu Hayabusa opens the story with two ninjas who fought in a life or death duel in the middle of the night. All that Ryu knows is that his father, Jô Hayabusa, was one of the combatants and lost. One day later, Ryu finds a letter in his father's room addressed to Ryu, which said,
- Ryu, I am on my way to a life or death duel. If it is destiny that I not return, you are to take the Dragon Sword of the Hayabusa family and go to America and see the archaeologist, Walter Smith. Ryu, be always brave...
Now fueled by revenge, Ryu adorns the Dragon Sword and sets out on a journey from his home of Japan to North America.
Act I[]
Ryu makes it America in hopes of getting any tips on the location of Dr. Walter Smith. In the alleyway of Galesburg, Illinois, however, a street gang of punks tried to jump him, only to be swiftly cut down. Going into Jay's Bar, he is ambushed by the leader of the gang, the feared Barbarian.
Epilogue[]
After killing the Barbarian, Ryu wonders if that gang was actually following him the whole time. He notices a girl in a suit standing behind him, and tells her to get lost. However, she shoots Ryu in the back with a tranquilizer, knocking him out...

- Act I is the only Act in the game with just one level and one boss.
- Is it also the only Act without any instant death pits, nor does it have an Health Potions.
