Chapter 0: Dark Descendant is the prologue chapter of Ninja Gaiden 4. The chapter takes place in Sky City Tokyo.
Synopsis[]
"Blackened rains beckons our bloodline's amends. Through the death of his priestess must the dragon be cleansed."
The young ninja Yakumo infiltrates a Divine Dragon Order facility to assassinate the priestess of the Dark Dragon. However, what Yakumo thought would be the end of his clan's prophecy turned out to only be the beginning of an even greater mission.
Story[]
Heading towards a Divine Dragon Order facility in Sky City Tokyo, Yakumo gets on a D.D.O. train. After dealing with some D.D.O. soldiers, Umi reminds him that his mission is to infiltrate the four shrines and break the seals on the Dark Dragon. With the Sky City Tokyo in sight, more D.D.O. soldiers appear and force Yakumo to jump off the train.
Long ago, the Dark Dragon, youngest of the Divine Dragon gods, wreaked havoc across the world. Awakened by the fiends of the underworld, the corrupted dragon fractured the very earth and plunged humanity into chaos. The plot of the fiends was ultimately thwarted through the efforts of a sole ninja... Ryu Hayabusa. A master ninja with superhuman skills who has eradicated the forces of evil time and time again. Not even the dragon god was able to stand against Ryu Hayabusa, and order was restored to the world once more. However... Several years ago, a powerful fiend and a mysterious priestess attempted to resurrect the Dark Dragon. And once again, Ryu took up arms to vanquish this threat. Yet, despite Ryu's heroic efforts, the Dark Dragon's husk remained, brimming with immeasurable power fueled by the countless lives sacrificed in the summoning ritual. And from this husk fell an endless downpour of cursed rain. Blighted miasma flooded Tokyo, rousing the hordes of the underworld and transforming the desolated city into a living hellscape. In an effort to prevent a repeat of this calamity. Ryuworked alongside the Divine Dragon Order, an autonomous military organization that seized control of the city, and sealed away the husk of the Dark Dragon. Still infested with blight and vile fiends, the abandoned Tokyo continues its struggle against chaos to this day.
Several days earlier, Yakumo infiltrates a D.D.O. facility. Misaki reminds him of the Raven Clan prophecy to kill the Dark Dragon princess and restore peace to the world. However, Yakumo doesn't think that a prophecy will change who they are as they will still continue to fight in the shadows as the Hayabusa Clan thrives. Umi directs him on where to go, but warns him that where he is headed the comms won't work, so he will be on his own.
After dealing with some guards, Yakumo enters Seori's cell, telling her that he is there to kill her. Looking at him, she guesses he is a Raven Clan ninja and came to kill her for the prophecy. As she cites the prophecy, she tells Yakumo that he doesn't really have any idea what their prophecy really means. She explains that the Raven Clan have a secret motive. Yakumo then confirms that its to slay the Dark Dragon, their ancestor. If he kills her now, the Dark Dragon seals will remain intact as she was the one who sealed him off. Since the dragon was killed and resurrected, it means that he can't be killed the normal way. The only way to truly kill him is to break the seals, complete the resurrection ritual and then purify him. Seori then proposes that they team up in breaking the seals, or he can kill her now and never complete their clan's mission. Yakumo agrees, but warns her that if she tries to pull something, he will kill her. Seori then gives him an item, saying to think of it as a good luck charm and keep the item safe until they keep the Dark Dragon.
As they prepare to leave, Yakumo contacts Umi, informing her that the plans have changed and now he is helping Seori escape. However, they are stopped by the Grand General of the Divine Dragon's Order, Kagachi. Kagachi doesn't know who Yakumo is, but can't give him Seori. Seori thanks Kagachi and the D.D.O. for keeping her safe, but there is something she needs to do. She then throws a flash bang, blinding Kagachi as she and Yakumo escape. Kagachi then realizes this wasn't an abduction, but an escape. Kagachi then contacts Ryu, informing him that Seori has escaped.
