Crow Shadow Demons (魔神クロウシャドウ) are the most powerful of the small human sized Shadow Fiends. They are most noticeably feared for their quick reflexes, high constitution and sliding slash attack.
Appearance[]
Tan white, short muscular stature, it's head consists of a large fanged mouth with a large eyeball protruding out of it, eyes on their deltoids and knees, large spike talon appendages in place of their hands and feet.
Battle[]
Much like its counterparts, the Crow Shadow Demon is an agile creature, capable of moving swiftly in the battleground and dodge attacks at ease. It'll always be fought in numbers, often attempting to flank the player. This enemy is notorious for most of its attacks breaking the player's guard.
Its primary attack is a three-hit combo with its spiked appendages, with the second and third hits capable of breaking the player's guard. Another attack is an a quick uppercut, which also breaks guard; if it connects, the player is launched up in the air, and the Crow Shadow Demon will follow it up with a drop kick that will launch the player away. It can also use a close range attack where it pushes its claws forward, dealing a two hits and briefly flinching the player; this is one of its few attacks that can be blocked.
When far away from the player, Crow Shadow Demon may close the gap with three different attacks. The first one is a jumping attack where it descends with its appendage. The second one is where it dives underground in its shadow form, becoming invulnerable; when emerging, it'll use a quick attack with its claws, which breaks the player's guard. The third, and most dangerous attack, is a sliding kick, which breaks the player's guard, and is always used twice; if it connects, the player will be flipped, and Crow Shadow Demon will jump on top of them violently punch multiple times, dealing heavy damage.
Strategy[]
The best way to deal with the Crow Shadow Demon is to always be on the move and avoid attacks rather than blocking, since most of its attacks are guard breakers. The first hit of its normal three-hit combo, the two-hit puncture attack, and the jumping attack all can be blocked, allowing the player to counter attack. If they use the sliding kick, it is best to jump away. Almost all their strikes are guard break attacks, and can leave you vulnerable to their sliding attack.
It is important to watch for vulnerable openings to attack, even though they are harder to hit than the other shadow fiends, so try to kill one and use its essence to chain together Ultimate Techniques. Wall attacks are useful to add more power into the attacks that will increase the chance of decapitating them.
The Dragon Sword, as usual, is the most flexible weapon the game, and is reliable to strike the demons with Izuna Drop. The Vigoorian Flail and Lunar Staff, on the other hand can easily deal with them thanks to their high attack speed and multiple hits, allowing the player to often hit various Shadow Demons at once. The Dabilahro and Unlabored Flawlessness, on the other hand, can one hit-kill the Demons with their counter attack or forward + Y; chaining their Ultimate Attacks is also an effective way to quickly dispatch them.
History[]
Ninja Gaiden[]
Crow Shadow Demons are one of the more powerful fiends, once ruling over the human world, but sealed away in the Demon World along with their creator Vigoor, in an age long forgotten. Once united with the Dark Dragon Blade in the modern age, Vigoor was able to lift this seal and allow his Fiends to enter the human world once again. Due to their powerful nature, Vigoor was unable to transfer the Crow Shadows to the Human world early on, but near the peak of Vigoor's full power, Crow Shadow Demons started flooding into the human world, only to be put down by Ryu Hayabusa the sole surviving guardian of the Dark Dragon Blade and last descendant of the Dragon Linage that sealed the fiends in ancient ages long ago.
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword[]
Like Ninja Gaiden, Crow Shadow Demons only appear in the later chapters of the game, often appearing alongside Red Bast Fiends as they try to kill Ryu Hayabusa. In Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword the fiends are trying to reignite the age of the fiends, an era where they ruled over the human world. And like the events 6 prior, the Crow Shadow Demons are unsuccessful and slain in combat by Ryu Hayabusa.
