Indigenous beings that inhabit the various areas of Tokyo. They often prefer to live near sacred grounds such as Shinto shrines, but some also inhabit the metropolitan area. More powerful specimens are sometimes worshipped as gods, while the weaker are often equated with yokai of Japanese folklore.
Most species are highly territorial and will attempt to eliminate any trespassers. This is a defensive instinct to preserve their fragile existence, as daemons lose their supernatural powers when forced outside of the lands they are bound to, cutting their lifespans significantly.
Thoughts arising from human emotions are the source of a daemon's power, and fear is known to empower them drastically. A long-lived daemon that has accumulated copious volumes of fear is no less powerful than a high-level fiend, making it no wonder that humans often regard them with reverence befitting a god.
