The Death Megalo Flyer (デスメガロフライヤー?) is a boss in Ninja Gaiden II, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, and Ninja Gaiden II: Black, appearing in Chapter 3.
Description[]
The Death Megalo Flyer is a large silver fish like creature. It has two large horns coming off of his head. Several round poles stick off of his segmented tail. The tail ends in a fin. Many spikes line the top of him.
Story[]
Ninja Gaiden II[]
Ryu encounters the Death Megalo Flyer in the subways of New York City. In order to carry on, Ryu must defeat him.
Techniques[]
- Untouchable Body: damages Hayabusa upon contact. Unblockable. Only works when not upside-down.
- Projectile Attacks: unleashes a volley of lightning balls. Unblockable. Only used when Hayabusa is in front of it.
- Mini-Death Spawns: spawns a moltitude of homing missiles that eplode on impact.
- Face of Death: pauses and shakes, then shoots a large slowly homing projectile at Hayabusa. Unblockable. Only used while below 50% Health.
- Throw Attack: charges at full speed through the tunnel to grab Hayabusa in its fangs.
Strategy[]
The boss moves from one end of the tunnel to the other, swaying from side to side, and there’s a corpse on the ground at both ends of the battlefield that replenish arrows. Its body inflicts damage when touched, and only the face takes full damage. While it's possible to approach the encounter by camping in the middle or on a side of the arena, firing charged shots with the Fiend's Bane Bow whenever the occasion to strike its weak spot presents itself, this risks leaving Hayabusa exposed too often to the Flyer's ranged attack. Instead, it's recommended to start the fight with a Lv2 Ultimate Technique from the Fiend's Bane Bow, and then immediately begin to charge a Lv2 Lunar Staff's Heavenly Shadow (↻ Hold Strong Attack, Release with Full Essence) Ultimate Technique to catch the Death Megalo Flyer as it takes the turn. At this point, chase after the boss by Reverse Wind (Left Bumper + Left Analogue Stick) and jumping, and repeat the process at every turn. Be ready to immediately cast either The Art of the Inferno or The Art of the Wind Blades Ninpo magic ability, if caught in any of its attacks.
Trivia[]
- A bug in Ninja Gaiden II may cause the boss to leave its arena, forcing the player to reload their savefile and clear the Van Gelf gauntlet again.
- The Death Megalo Flyer's concept art has a seemingly normal human character next to it. It is unknown who this character was meant to be as they do not appear in the final game.
