Death Valley
Name Death Valley
Debut Ninja Gaiden

Death Valley is the location of Act 2-2 in Ninja Gaiden, a rustic stone castle built in the middle of the canyon-side. Well-hidden off the radar, it gets its name from the many animals that died on its rooftops due to dehydration, and seems to be in a state of decay. Ryu Hayabusa managed to escape from the Outpost, only to find he was just inside the stone castle the whole time: now he must find a way out without falling off the narrow stone bridges.

At the end of Death Valley, is the location of Act 2-3, Amura's Altar.

Ninja Gaiden[]

Death Valley has three rooms. This is where the difficulty spikes a bit, thanks to a whole new cast of enemies and several sections with narrow pillars being the only means for ground, making it easy to get knocked off. The item containers in this level take the form of mosquitos.

This is also the first level to have a Health Potion available.

Enemies[]

Valuable Pickups (rooms are split off by spaces):[]

  • Shuriken NES1Shuriken - Right next to the last Gunner.
  • Jump & Slash Technique NES1SpinSlash - Located at the far left of a long bridge where multiple Runners will be coming at Ryu from behind.
  • Art of Flying Firewheel NES1FireWheel - To the right of the Gunner.

Trivia[]

  • This location is named after Death Valley National Park in California, known for having the most extreme temperatures in North America. Whether this stone castle is actually built in this national park or not is unknown.
  • The music in the stage, titled "Rugged Terrain", is reused for Act 4-1.
