The Golden Key is a Key Item in Ninja Gaiden II.
In-Game Description[]
The key to a throne room, cast from pure gold.
Finished with rubies and diamonds for a royally gorgeous appearance, the grip is inscribed with a fang-shaped crest. It is obvious at even a cursory glance that this is no ordinary implement for the unlocking of doors. It is a priceless treasure in its own right.
Although never confirmed, one theory claims the key is the handiwork of Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), genius architect of the early Italian Renaissance. Renowned for inventing the concept of linear perspective in art, his tremendous influence is felt even in modern times. In addition to being an architect, he was a sculptor and precious metalworker as well.
No official records connect him to the Castle of Fangs, and it is doubtful that even a genius such as Brunelleschi could manage such detailed work at the advanced age he would have been when the key was created. However, his surviving correspondence contains an outrageously expensive receipt that has not been linked to any known piece of art, leading some to theorize that it was compensation for the creation of this key. The debate among scholars continues even to this day.
