Tengu are bird-like daemons in Ninja Gaiden 4. There are two types of Tengu depending on the weapon they carry: Staff and Fan.
Description[]
Petty chieftains of the tengu. The chieftain is typically the oldest and largest individual in a pack, called a "great tengu" due to its large size.
Might is right for the daemonic tengu, and the great tengu do not hesitate to display their strength. On the rare occasion that a subordinate attempts a coup, the offender is nearly always defeated and tortured as an example to others. Discipline is vital within a pack and dissent cannot be tolerated.
The tengu follow their own religion, and the great tengu also serves as priest of the pack. The origins of the religion are unclear, but many of its rituals, such as idol carving and sacrificial offerings, closely resemble those found in human religions.

History[]
Great Tengu are first encountered in Chapter 4: Pilgrim's Windswept Path. They are commonly found in Fuuhaku Sanctum.
When Yakumo and Seori team up to break the Dark Dragon seals in order to purify him, their path leads them to Fuuhaku Sanctum, where the second shrine is protected by Kurobo. On his way to the shrine, Yakumo faces and defeats many great tengu.
