The IDE-1011 Manta Helicopter is a Boss in Ninja Gaiden 3 and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

Appearance[]

Techniques[]

  • Dive Attack: Guard Breaks.
  • Missile Barrage: fires rockets from its four launchers.
  • Bomb Rain: flies overhead dropping down bombs, with orange circles indicating the landing spot.
  • Projectile Attack: fires from the cockpit.
    • Ninja Gaiden 3: a stream of bullets.
    • Razor's Edge: multiple lasers.

Strategy[]

Hold Block (Hold LT/L1/Zl) to safely guard yourself from the initial Dive Attack, then Aim (Hold LB/L2/L) and Shoot Arrows (RB/R2/Zr) exclusively at the glowing rocket launchers, before Sliding (Block + Left Analog Stick) and Jumping (A/X/B) sideways to avoid the incoming Missile Barrage.

When enough damage is dealt, you'll be prompted to Jump toward the Helicopter and press Strong Attack (Y/△/X) once and then repeatedly: on its wing now, quickly close in on the Turret Gun, Blocking its stream of bullets and Sliding sideways when Guard Broken, and attack with a series of Quick Attacks (X//Y). Then launch a Strong Attack to begin the destruction sequence, requiring you to tap Strong Attack quickly.

On the new platform, the battle progresses as before, with the only addition of the occasional Bomb Rain, which can be comfortably avoided by staying away from the orange circles on the ground.

As the Boss's Health decreases, you'll have to Jump and perform a Strong Attack followed by a series of Strong Attacks again, but this time around, as you land a Strong Attack on the Turret Gun, the Helicopter will bank, forcing you to hold your Kunai Climb (LB + RB/L1 + R1/Zl+Zr) on its wing, while Sliding to avoid the Turret that fires every time its light blinks. As the vehicle stabilizes again, you'll have to quickly strike against the Turret, as this time around it'll be supported by a couple of Heavy Soldiers (Jetpack).

Once the last Turret Gunis destroyed, you'll have to finish the fight with the Manta Helicopter itself on a new platform, but it too will now have the aid of numerous Heavy Soldiers (Jetpack) to prioritize. The Boss will also start performing its Projectile Attack in this ultimate phase.

After dismantling the remaining rocket launchers, you'll have the final Jump, Strong Attack, Strong Attack repeatedly sequence to perform to end the battle, however you'll also have to hold your Kunai Climb on its wing and only Jump at the very end, when the time starts flowing slowly.
