Kelbeross (ケルベロス; keruberosu) is a demonic dog creature who protects Jaquio as the boss of Act 4 in Ninja Gaiden, and returns as the boss of Act 6 in Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. Before it was a demon, it started off as a loyal pet of Jaquio that lived life as a normal dog. In an exchange for power, Jaquio killed his dog and offered it as a pledge sacrifice to evil spirits. Being brought back to life, the Kelbeross was given a powerful demonic form, as well as a twin. Despite this horrific act, the Kelbeross continues to live a life of unyielding loyalty and protection to its master.

Using its newfound power, Kelbeross can duplicate itself to confuse the intruders and spits corrosive balls of saliva as projectiles.  It is almost certainly named after the Cerberus, the mythological three headed dog that guarded the gates of Hades (hell) in greek mythology.

Ninja Gaiden[]

Kelbeross is the boss of Act 4, and Ryu encounters it and its twin in the Space of Kelbeross. The two dogs here move around the area with short hops of varying lengths, moving back and forth along the room and interacting with the platforms on each side. Each dog is capable of shooting pink projectiles forward from their mouths as they jump, but they won't hurt Ryu so long as he stays on the ground.

With both dogs have their own HP, only one of these dogs is the real one. The fake one can be damaged and defeated, but this won't end the fight nor will it subtract from the real one's HP. All of their attacks do 3 damage. Kelbeross's biggest weakness is the Jump & Slash Technique: if Ryu jumps in place from where he spawns in and attacks as soon as the fight begins, it's guaranteed to one-shot Kelbeross.

There is a very rare glitch where killing the fake one with a sub-weapon like the Windmill Star may trigger an event that duplicates multiple fake Kelberosses, up to 3 in addition to the real one.
