The Art of the Crimson Lotus (紅蓮楓の術 Gurenfu no Jutsu?, lit. "Art of Crimson Maple") is a Ninpo Scroll in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, seen in Chapter 5: The Shrine-Maiden Battle. It also appears in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus and Ninja Gaiden II: Black.

It makes a return in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, used by Momiji in Ninja Trials.

Summary[]

To equip Ninpo, open the Quick Menu , and then go the the Ninpo shortcut menu.

To cast Ninpo, press Strong Attack + Projectile Attack.

The flames underneath the Health Gauge represents your Ki. Casting Ninpo extinguishes one Ki Gauge flame. When your Ki Gauge is empty, you cannot cast Ninpo. To replenish your Ki, use the Devil Way Mushroom item or collect Red Essence.

Details[]

A ninpo spell that incinerates the enemy with a vortex of fire.

Gesturing the characters “rin,” “byo,” “to,” “sha,” “kai,” “jin,”
“retsu,” “zai,” and “zen” (臨・兵・闘・者・皆・陣・列・在・前) in
sequence activates the spell, transforming the leaves dancing
within the magic circle into an inferno of fire balls that
incinerate and consume all enemies in their path. The divine
flames burn only the wicked, leaving those pure of heart
unscathed.

Location[]

  • Chapter 5: The Shrine-Maiden Battle
    • Starting equipment.

  • Ninja Trials: Momiji's equipment.

Upgrades[]

  • This Ninpo spell cannot be upgraded.

Overview[]

  • Pros:
    • Balanced ninpo.
    • Good amount of damage.
    • Can target up to 3 different enemies.
    • High range.
  • Cons
    • Only damages enemies in front of Momiji.

  • Pros:
    • Allows movement while active.
    • Player can press the ninpo button at any time when active to launch the fireballs outwards.
    • Momiji can simply launch ONE fireball by pressing block and the shuriken buttons at the same time. (This reduces a small amount of Ninpo energy each time when used.)
    • The fireballs can disrupt enemies' current attack/movement.
  • Cons:
    • Leaves Momiji vulnerable to ranged attacks.
    • Lasts for a relatively short time.
    • Long Ninpo Bar.
    • Does not restore much health when hitting enemies.
    • Short range. (If Ninpo command is not used again during active period)
    • The fireballs are relatively weak when launched.

Strategy[]

In Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, this ninpo is nearly identical to the Art of the Inferno. Like the Art of the Inferno, the Art of the Crimson Lotus is best used in "bottle neck" areas, such as hallways and enclosed areas where it is hard for enemies to spread out and attack from different flanks.

In Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, the ninpo is nearly identical to the Art of the Flame Phoenix and the Art of the Fire Wheels.

Trivia[]

  • Art of Crimson Lotus is Momiji's Break Blow in Dead or Alive 6.
  • The characters 臨兵闘者皆陣列在前 is a phrase that represents the nine-cuts mudra, part of a Hindu prayer hand-posture, and is supposed to be an exorcism-purification spell.
  • In Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Momiji chants what seems to be "Don Patura Dun".
  • In Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, this Ninpo's effect creates a large swirling fireball around Momiji, similar to Art of the Fire Wheels and Art of the Flame Phoenix.
