Strategy[]
As with the Nunchaku, the key component of the Nunchaku is the ability to cancel the Dragon and Phoenix (Quick, Quick, Quick, Quick, Quick, Quick Attack) combo before the final uppercut, which puts Hayabusa in a lengthy recovery. Despite the low damage and short reach of the weapon, this string has a lot of priority against weak enemies due to its speed and effectively generates hitboxes all around Ryu to protect him against strikes from all sides. The alternatives are the Fire Pit finisher, which has a chance to deal substantial bonus damage, if the enemy hit is also knocked against a wall, or to loop the chain itself indefinitely by pressing Block in between attacks.
The unique Cremator (Quick, Quick, Quick, Forward Quick, Quick, Quick, Quick, Quick, Attack) string behaves similarly, being interruptable with a Strong Attack into Dragon Slaughter at any point prior the final move, despite not being reported in the movelist iself.
The most powerful technique is by far Ripping Thunder (Forward Strong, Strong, Strong Attack) and its damage can be massively increased to 140% by The Armlet of Potency. Another strong combo that benefits from this accessory is Wide Heavens (Quick, Strong Attack) into Dragon Emperor Kick (While jumping — Strong Attack), however since swift foes may dodge even after the first hit connects, it's best to use it once the enemy is downed by either a Ring of Heaven Kick (While blocking — Quick or Strong Attack) Counter Attack, Guillotine Throw (Near an enemy — Quick Attack + Jump) or Wind Run (Quick Attack + Jump) plus Wind Path (While jumping near an enemy — Jump) into Dragon Emperor Kick or Earth Slide (While running — Quick Attack). All these Kick and Throw techniques too receive the same boost.
Not only Red-Hot Iron Brand (While jumping towards an enemy — Strong Attack) grants Hayabusa plenty of invicibility during its execution, but also leaves him in an aerial state, allowing to follow-up with a Dragon Emperor Kick, Shuriken toss or an Ultimate Technique upon landing.
Mountain Crane (During a Flying Bird Flip — Quick, Strong Attack or Strong, Strong Attack) is also a powerful move that offers lengthy invulnerability frames and has a high chance to knock foes against a wall.
Notes[]
- Dragon and Phoenix is also an effective string against Mist Fish, since it can be interrupted into Sweeping Strike (While jumping — Quick Attack) and this repeated indefinitely.
- The Demon Chaser (Near a downed enemy — Strong Attack) finisher benefits from a massive hitbox.
- To perform the Runaway Lightning (Near an enemy — Quick, Strong Attack) Throw successfully, the third hit of the first Quick Attack needs to connect: if the Strong Attack is initated too soon, the move will turn into Wide Heavens instead, so use the Hit Count displayed below the Health Gauge as a reference.
- Only the damage of the final two hits themselves is increased by The Armlet of Potency.
- In the original Ninja Gaiden release, Fire Pit could only be initiated after two Quick Attacks.
